The Man Who Unlocked The Universe

Co-produced by Lola Till, The Man Who Unlocked The Universe is a 2017 feature-length documentary about the life and scientific legacy of 15th-century astronomer and mathematician Ulugh Beg.
During his rule of the Transoxania region of Central Asia, the Timurid sultan transformed the Uzbekistan city of Samarkand into the global epicenter for the most advanced studies in astronomy, a feat that included the construction of an observatory where some of the era’s most prominent scholars assembled to collaborate. Featuring world-renowned actors Vincent Cassel and Armand Assante, The Man Who Unlocked The Universe won the Kineo Prize for Best Foreign Documentary at the 74th Venice International Film Festival, as well as the Best Documentary Award at the 2017 Ischia Film Festival. In addition, the film’s score was composed by esteemed producer/songwriter Walter Afanasieff, who won the 1999 Grammy Award for Record of the Year for his work in producing Celine Dion’s “My Heart Will Go On.”
